With mixed feelings, I announce that our Executive Director, Marla Champion, has informed the Board of Directors of her plans to retire.
Marla joined the YWCA St Thomas Elgin as the Executive Director in 1993. Over the last 25 years, under her leadership, the YWCA has progressed to be a diverse multiservice agency, providing core services across Elgin County.
Marla represented the agency’s philosophy not only from a local perspective, but also from a national perspective. She brought global issues to the forefront of the work of our local YWCA, and has grown the profile of St Thomas Elgin. Her leadership qualities have provided strength, resilience, and innovation within the organization.
With Marla’s governance, the programs and services of the YWCA St Thomas Elgin have evolved and expanded to continue to meet the changing needs of the community for women, girls, youth, men and families.
While we are sad to be losing Marla, her extensive years of service to the YWCA and commitment to the community, has earned her a well-deserved retirement. Over the coming months the Board of Directors will be undergoing a process for recruiting a new Executive Director. The Board, together with Marla, is committed to making this transition as smooth as possible.
Thank you, Marla, for everything you have done and continue to do. We wish you all the best in retirement!!
Carrie O’Brien, Board President
