St.Thomas – Understanding a community’s needs and responding with innovation, passion and capital, YWCA St.Thomas-Elgin is honoured to announce a recent donation by Doug Tarry Homes of $500,000 towards Project Tiny Hope. Project partner and healthy community advocate, Doug Tarry shares “Tiny Hope is an essential part of creating a healthier, safer, more vibrant and more inclusive heart for our wonderful community. To accomplish this, we need more people living downtown, which this project will address. I encourage everyone who lives, works and plays in St. Thomas to join us in supporting Tiny HOPE.”
Prior to this generous contribution in the spring of 2021 Doug Tarry Homes provided $280,000 which made it possible for remediation of 21 Kains Street to be completed. “With Doug Tarry’s recent contribution along with $1 million in community donations, we are making great strides to reaching various milestones in this massive undertaking,” explains Lindsay Rice, Executive Director. The site of Project Tiny Hope now awaits much needed support from all levels of government to proceed to phase one of construction. An application through the federal governments Rapid Housing Initiative Grant will be submitted by YWCA St.Thomas-Elgin at the end of this month.
