Home Alone – Red Cross Stay Safe

The Home Alone – Red Cross Stay Safe! program offers basic first aid and safety skills for children and youth 9-13 years old. Participants learn about being safe when they are without the direct supervision of a parent, guardian or trusted adult, both at home and in their communities.

Topics covered include:

  • The importance of responsibility and respect while being accountable for yourself
  • The importance of setting and following safety rules when on your own
  • How to stay safe at home and within the community
  • How to prepare for, recognize and respond to unexpected situations (e.g., inclement weather, strangers, and unanticipated visits)
  • Basic first aid skills

Cost: $36
Ages: 9 years of age (or completion of Grade 3)

  1. Saturday September 24 from 10am-3pm at Springfield Library, Springfield (Register by September 19, 2022)
  2. Virtual: Tuesdays October 18-November 8, 2022 from 6:30-8pm (Register by October 7, 2022)
  3. Saturday November 5 from 10am-3pm at Belmont Library, Belmont (Register by October 28, 2022)

Please note: 

Programs will be available pending sufficient registration, COVID-19 safety measures, and capacity.

In person programs are provided in line with COVID safety precautions and guidance as it may evolve.  Online COVID screening is required prior to program entry.  Please screen for symptoms prior to attending in person & stay home if sick.  Please monitor the YWCA website for updates, follow posted signage and direction from staff.  Click here for details regarding our COVID safety precautions and to access Ontario’s Screening Tools.

Program materials for virtual programs are required to be picked up at a YWCA office location (St. Thomas, Aylmer, West Lorne) in advance of the program. Virtual programs require access to a computer or other device with camera/microphone and sufficient internet for participation on the specified dates/times.  Virtual programs will be hosted on Zoom.  If you have not used Zoom before, please review information on Getting Started with Zoom prior to registering.  Refunds will not be issued after the session begins, for connectivity or technological challenges that prevent program participation, completion or for course non-completion.
