Uplift

Our UPLIFT Program provides women and non-binary individuals the opportunity to reskill or upskill in advanced manufacturing and/or specialized technology fields through certification training with one of our chosen training providers. Participants can also access additional supports related to career development and navigating non-traditional workplaces. Skills training is provided alongside wraparound supports and career development.

Since early 2021, nineteen cohorts involving nearly 400 participants have leveraged this opportunity through YWCA partner organizations across Southern and Eastern Ontario. Over 95% of those “recommend” of “strongly recommend” this program to others.

Participants have been enrolled in tailored certification programs at accredited Ontario universities and colleges where they gained job-related technical skills and developed professional competencies, leading to a Declaration of Academic Achievement and/or micro-credentials.

We are now offering training in the following streams:

Egibility Requirements

  • Women (cisgender or transgender) or non-binary
  • Bachelor’s degree, diploma or relevant experience
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Canadian Language Benchmark levels 7-8
  • Acceptance into the program is not income dependent 

Steps to Enrollment

  • Request and complete an application form by contacting with our Uplift Program Coordinator, Kimberly Plunkett at kplunkett@ywcaste.ca 
  • Attend an Information session/Intake Interview
  • Provide proof of eligibility
  • Upon an offer of acceptance, complete and sign the Participant Agreement containing code of conduct, expectations, confidentiality agreement, and consent to release information.
  • Enrolment with training partner is then completed by Program Coordinator

Training fees including tuition and textbooks for participants are generously covered by the FedDev Ontario.

UPLIFT PROGRAMS

INFORMATION SUCURITY ESSENTIALS

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Fanshawe College School of Information and Technology to offer one of their newest programs to our UPLIFT participants, Information Security Essentials starting September 2023.

This program is designed for IT professionals who are interested in furthering their education in Information and Cyber Security. Participants should have a 2- or 3-year College Diploma or Degree in a computing-related field to be eligible for consideration.

This program consists of three courses in total:

Participants will be required to take two courses in the fall 2023 semester and the final course in the winter 2024 semester.

Once these three courses have been completed participants will have achieved their Declaration of Academic Achievement in Information Security Essentials. This Declaration of Academic Achievement is a selected number of courses from the Information Security Management (ISM1) post-graduate program at Fanshawe College. Participants will be able to continue their pursuit of a postgraduate certificate in the future if they choose to do so.

LEADERSHIP - MICRO CREDENTIAL SERIES

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Fanshawe College- Part Time Studies to offer the full LEADERSHIP micro credentialling series to our UPLIFT participants, starting September 2023.

What are Micro Credentials?

Micro credentials are courses shorter in duration in comparison to other part-time courses. They are flexible and developed based on industry demand. They are the perfect way to develop specific skills and help you grow in your career.

How do Micro Creditials work?

Micro credential badges can be taken on their own or as part of a series of badges that can be stacked to earn a larger, foundational skill set.

This Leadership series consists of five courses / badges in total. Participants will be required to take the badges as scheduled below to complete the Leadership Micro Credentialling series.

LEAN SIX SIGMA

Lean Six Sigma tools and business-improvement methodologies are optimizing the way companies do business in healthcare, manufacturing, finance, IT and many other industries. Green Belt certification at Mohawk College is the introductory level for Lean Six Sigma. Originally implemented in the manufacturing sector, these highly respected and proven business improvement methodologies are used by firms world-wide to improve processes and quality by reducing “non-value added” activities, process variations and waste to maximize efficiencies and customer satisfaction. Green Belt program participants will focus on a step-by-step process of improvement using statistical tools and Lean and Six Sigma project management strategies such as DMAIC and PDCA. Mohawk College, partnered with Continuous Improvement Consulting 360 (CI360), has developed an innovative way for professionals to achieve Yellow, Green and even Black Belt Certification in as little as 8 months.

MEDICAL OHIP BILLING

Back by popular demand

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Mohawk College once again this semester to offer the Medical OHIP Billing course to our UPLIFT participants.

Study the basics of efficient Health Claim Billing in Ontario. Learn to use the Schedule of Benefits and Preambles of the Ministry of Health and examine computerized billing.

The course will be delivered through Ontario Learn. There are no prerequisites, but students are recommended to have completed Medical Terminology, have good typing skills and some computer knowledge.

Note that Windows Operating System is required, MAC computers are not compatible unless they run a Windows OS.

PROCUREMENT ESSENTIALS

This program is designed to provide participants with the essentials skills in the field of procurement. Students will examine purchasing principles, public sector supply chain management, negotiation techniques, and purchasing contract law.

This program is designed for students with prior post-secondary education or experience in supply chain management.

This program consists of five courses in total. Participants will be required to take one course in the fall 2023 semester, two courses in the winter 2024 semester and the final two courses in the summer 2024 semester.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT ESSENTIALS

The YWCA UPLIFT Program is once again offering tuition free access to Project Management Essentials this fall!

Project Management is considered the cornerstone in any organization, Project Managers are highly sought after in a wide range of industries. They study the competencies required to move a business opportunity through conceptualization, initiation, planning, execution, control, and closing, ensuring success. Project Management improves your ability to implement mission critical work on time and on budget.

Students with prior post-secondary education or experience in project management will be given priority consideration for acceptance into this program.

Participants will be required to complete two courses in each term starting September 5, 2023.
