The Basics
Hours: This position includes guaranteed 25 hours per week during the school year through split shifts.
School Year: 7:00–9:30 a.m. and 3:00–6:00 p.m.
Summer: 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. (rotating coverage)
In addition to scheduled program hours, staff may occasionally participate in team meetings, professional development, and training opportunities.
Travel: You will be based in St. Thomas and provide coverage at all 10 school locations. A reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and a phone are required in order to receive daily assignments or occasional last-minute schedule changes.
Driving: Comfort driving in all weather and lighting conditions, including winter mornings and dark evenings, is required. Mileage is not reimbursed.
What You’ll Do
- Step in to provide coverage for Educator absences across programs.
- Plan and lead activities, games, crafts, and social experiences based on children’s interests.
- Support a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for children ages 4–12.
- Prepare and serve nutritious snacks.
- Create a warm, welcoming, and professional environment for children and families.
- Follow the Child Care and Early Years Act and YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin program guidelines.
What We’re Looking For
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), or graduating from an ECE program in April, preferred.
- Experience working with children ages 4–12.
- If not an RECE, a diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Recreation & Leisure, Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) membership, or current enrollment in one of these programs.
- Standard First Aid with CPR Level C from a WSIB-approved provider.*
- Acceptable Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening* and Child Welfare Community Check completed within six months.
- Safe Food Handler Certification* prior to start date.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age in accordance with Ministry of Education requirements.
*Required prior to start date.

Wage range: $18.41 – CA$25.86 per hour
