Mobile Educator – School Age Childcare

YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin is looking for a caring, adaptable, and energetic Mobile Educator to support our School Age Childcare programs across the region. This is not a one-site position — every day may bring a new school, new group of children, and new opportunities to make a difference.

The Basics
Hours
This position includes guaranteed 25 hours per week during the school year through split shifts.
School Year: 7:00–9:30 a.m. and 3:00–6:00 p.m.
Summer: 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. (rotating coverage)
In addition to scheduled program hours, staff may occasionally participate in team meetings, professional development, and training opportunities.
Travel
You will be based in St. Thomas or Aylmer and provide coverage at all 10 school locations. A reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and a phone are required in order to receive daily assignments or occasional last-minute schedule changes.
Driving
Comfort driving in all weather and lighting conditions, including winter mornings and dark evenings, is required. Mileage is not reimbursed.
Communication
The successful candidate must be able to communicate clearly and respectfully in English with children, families, and colleagues, and read and apply program policies and procedures in daily practice.
Wage Range: $18.59 – 26.51/hour
What You’ll Do
- Step in to provide coverage for Educator absences across programs.
- Plan and lead activities, games, crafts, and social experiences based on children’s interests.
- Support a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for children ages 4–12.
- Prepare and serve nutritious snacks.
- Create a warm, welcoming, and professional environment for children and families.
- Follow the Child Care and Early Years Act and YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin program guidelines.
What We’re Looking For
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), or graduating from an ECE program in April, preferred.
- Experience working with children ages 4–12.
- If not an RECE, a diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Recreation & Leisure, Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) membership, or current enrollment in one of these programs.
- Standard First Aid with CPR Level C from a WSIB-approved provider.*
- Acceptable Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening* and Child Welfare Community Check completed within six months.
- Safe Food Handler Certification* prior to start date.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age in accordance with Ministry of Education requirements.
