English Language Classes

We offer free English Language Training to eligible adults. 

Instructors use settlement themes to teach and assess reading, writing, listening and speaking skills within the framework of the Canadian Language Benchmarks and in alignment with Portfolio-Based Language Assessment approach toward progressInstruction is guided by Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) curriculum guidelines. Learners also receive information about the local community, Canadian culture and the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship.

Who Can Join? 

To be eligible for our English language program, you must be 18 years or older and one of the following: 

  • Permanent Residents of Canada. 
  • Protected Persons as defined in Section 95 of IRPA, until they obtain Canadian citizenship. 
  • Individuals who have been selected, inside or outside Canada, to become permanent residents (pending verifications) and who have been informed, by a letter from IRCC. 
  • Convention refugees or persons in similar circumstances outside Canada who have been selected for resettlement in Canada by IRCC. 

To participate in the program, individuals must complete a placement test by an assessment centre. In our region, the London Cross-Cultural Learner Centre (CCLC) provides language assessment and referral services. St. Thomas daytime classes are offered Monday to Thursday. 
Aylmer and St. Thomas evening classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays.
